One of the worst things that can happen to your exercise routine is monotony. In order to combat that, sometimes it helps to have a friend or a group of friends to work out with. Not only can you catch up on what is going on in each other’s lives, but you can motivate one another and achieve those exercise goals. Four benefits of working out in a group include:

1) Accountability

Sometimes it’s hard to show up to that early morning run or that late night spin class. However, if you have a group of friends meeting you there, expecting your arrival, it might hold you to a higher standard and give you that oomph you need to get there.

2) Group Camaraderie

One of the great things about working out in a group setting is the ability to mix and mingle and meet new people you otherwise wouldn’t have seen outside of the gym. It’s a great way to form new relationships, maintain current ones, and rekindle old ones. Plus, there is no better way to relate to someone than over the aches and pains of that latest boot camp.

3) Motivation

Not only are your friends there to motivate you and push you, but there is also the instructor. They are there to not only make sure you are working out in safe and effective manner but to challenge you. They will take your exercise to the next level and test your limits. You never know, you may be surprised at just how much you can do.

4) Variety

Many times, when you work out solo, you end up stuck in the same routine. Having a group of friends can be a great way to spice things up. They might have a usual routine that differs from your own. By joining together, you can combine exercise patterns and keep things fresh. Or, if you’re utilizing a group gym fitness class, there are typically many exercises to choose from. Maybe by alternating days with different classes, or switching things up weekly, you can keep your workout regimen fresh and engaging.

There is no reason to let your routine become routine. Spice things up by working out with friends or joining a class at the gym. Keep yourself motivated and keep your body moving with help from a group.
