If you’re not generally immersed in the physical therapy world, the term ASTYM may be new to you. ASTYM therapy was designed to help mobilize soft tissues in order to promote healing. As one of the first physical therapy clinics in Oregon to adopt and embrace the ASTYM System, we believe patients tend to stick with this therapy process and see faster results.
So what is ASTYM Therapy?
We’re glad you asked. ASTYM is a form of therapy that helps regenerate healthy soft tissue like muscles and tendons. Through the process of ASTYM therapy, it reduces scar, degeneration and fibrosis tissues that could be causing pain or limiting your mobility.
How does ASTYM Therapy work?
By using specifically designed tools, physical therapists will perform what is called “microtrauma” in the area with the damaged, scarred or overused tissue is located. Through the process of microtrauma, blood flow increases which help regenerate new, healthy tissue. It’s normal to experience redness of the treated area, a sign of blow flow and potentially some bruising. You and your therapist will work together to determine the frequency of your ASTYM treatment and what, if any, stretching and exercises should accompany your ASTYM therapy.
Is ASTYM a Good Solution for you?
This form of therapy is a great option for a variety of conditions or injuries. Injuries from overuse, or prolonged immobilization and even post-surgery scarring and other chronic injuries. Thankfully, ASTYM therapy is far more reaching than those conditions mentioned above. If you have been living with any of the diagnoses below, you could potentially benefit from ASTYM Therapy:

- Scar Tissue
- Chronic Ankle Sprains
- Shoulder Pain
