Our History: The Last 40 Years

PT Northwest 40 Years

It’s our 40th Anniversary, and we have been celebrating 40 years of the highest level care to our patients as possible. Our commitment to new innovative and dedicated approaches to wellness has enabled us to provide the foremost progressive and comprehensive physical rehabilitation services in the Pacific Northwest. PT Northwest has a lot to be proud of, so that’s why we’ve put together our history for those interested!

Originating in 1977, PT Northwest was created by Alvin Haunch who was an extremely busy physical therapist. He got the opportunity to meet Elvis Presley through his work and was invited to dinner at the legend’s home. Sadly, Haunch declined because of his busy schedule.

This was when Alvin realized that he needed some of his time back for himself. His family and he packed up their belongings and moved to Stayton, Oregon where he started a clinic and provided rehabilitation services to Santiam Memorial Hospital. He then started a Salem clinic which outgrew its space in 1988. It moved to its current location on 36th Ave. and by 1996, Alvin retired, leaving the company solid and growing. After that, more locations began to be created into the 10 that we have today!

In 1998, we began sponsoring the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, then we went on to sponsor Willamette University in 2006. We also sponsor the Portland Timbers U23s and the Corvallis Knights! We love our teams and enjoy watching them play!

Scot Campbell, Kennedy Hawkins, Mike Hmura, and Jason Ball make up the current PT Northwest Ownership Team. PT Northwest has happily grown to have over 100 employees in 10 different locations. All this time, PT Northwest has remained diligent and successful when it comes to changing people’s lives.

We were awarded as one of the Top 100 Workplaces in Oregon in 2016. We are honored to have that title and the staff that we do because they share our values and help to continue our growth throughout the future. We aim to give stability and hope for those who get injured. It’s important for us to stay positive so that our patients can believe in themselves in order to get better. If you have any questions about bettering yourself, contact us today! We’d be happy to help you get in tip-top condition!
