PT Northwest Success Story: Todd Gould

Salem physical therapy

When Todd Gould first stepped into PT Northwest, he wasn’t sure how or if physical therapy could help him. As a team of dedicated professionals in Salem physical therapy, we took the challenge to get Todd back on his feet.

Gould, who is himself the former director of a medical clinic in Salem, regularly treats patients who live with debilitating chronic pain. However, he didn’t experience it himself until one day in November when he woke up with significant pressure on his left hip.

“I keep active, running often and going to the gym a couple times each week,” he said. “I see myself as a person in good physical shape.”

The pressure continued to grow until it became a sharp, significant pain. It was so bad that he had to wait several moments after standing before he could even take a step. He also could not cross his legs or sleep on his left side.

At first, he believed that he had arthritis. The results from his physician came back negative, however, and he was referred to an orthopedist, who in turn referred him to PT Northwest.

Todd wasn’t sure how physical therapy could help him, but he decided to give it a try anyway. He met with Renske Rose, MSPT, CIMT. Immediately, she gave off a comfortable, confidence presence. After spending several minutes talking with Todd about what he was going through, she had him perform several movements in order to diagnose what was causing his pain.

“At this time, she told me I had an issue with my ‘SI’ joint and her recommendation was for functional exercises and manual therapy to help correct the problem,” Todd said. “Even though I had never even heard of an ‘SI’ joint, I was willing to try anything.”

Rose showed Todd a series of stretches he could do to help alleviate the pain. He left with little hope that it could help.

Within 72 hours of working with Rose, Todd had a 70% reduction in his pain level.

He continued to work with Rose and the team, and they eventually reached a plateau. From there, Rose shifted him to functional exercises and manual therapy. His pain was gone completely within 48 hours.

“I can’t even begin to express my gratitude to the team at PT Northwest!” Todd said. “They were able to diagnose and correct an issue I had been struggling with and that was limiting my active lifestyle. Renske is the real deal, truly amazing!”
